Cyclon Hamoon crossed Bangladesh coast between Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar at mid-night

The cyclonic storm “Hamoon” over the Northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area moved Northeastward and completed crossing the coast at 01 AM today 25 October 2023 said Bangladesh Met Department Special Bulletin.

The Cyclon weakened into a land-deep depression near Chattogram. According to the Met office, the deep depression is likely to move further inland and weaken gradually by giving precipitation.

Hamoon has crossed the coast with a maximum sustained wind speed within 54km of the storm’s center is about 62 kmh rising to 88 kph in gusts between Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram. During the crossing, the coastal districts of the southern part of Bangladesh witnessed heavy rainfall and tidal surge.

The center of Hamoon made landfall around 9:00 p.m. Bangladesh local time.

Maritime ports of Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been advised to lower danger signal no.07 but instead to hoist local cautionary signal three, said the special bulletin.
